From fasting to sharing

As Easter 2033 approaches, Lent once again becomes a special time to unite faith and concrete commitment. Through the "Offering Calories for Life" initiative, JC2033 invites everyone to prepare for Easter not only with words, but also with actions that nourish and unite.

For many years, JC2033 has been working alongside Swiss pastor Marc Subilia, whose commitment combines proclaiming the Gospel with concrete action in the service of the poor. At the origin of the "Offering Calories for Life" initiative, he proposes a simple gesture that is accessible to all: voluntarily giving up one meal per week and donating the money saved to a charity fighting hunger. This is a deeply evangelical approach, which makes Lent a time of prayer, fasting, and sharing, faithful to the most ancient tradition of the Church.

Lent, the forty days leading up to the cross and the Resurrection, asks us:

How would you like to live this time in 2026?

Through sacrifices that liberate?

Through a concrete act of solidarity?

The prospect of Easter 2033, which marks the celebration of two thousand years since the Resurrection, opens up a horizon of hope and common witness for Christians around the world.

At the heart of this approach is the symbol of bread, the thread that runs through the Gospel: daily bread asked of the Father, bread multiplied for the crowd, bread broken at the Last Supper, bread of life offered by Christ, shared bread that reveals the Risen One at Emmaus. Each time, bread connects faith to action.

For a living faith cannot remain abstract. "Give them something to eat yourselves," Jesus said to his disciples. Christian witness is embodied in gestures, even modest ones, that make the Good News credible. Offering a meal is feeding the hungry and living unity, witness, and celebration.

Friends and ambassadors of JC2033, will we dare to commit ourselves during Lent 2026 to fasting one meal a week to prepare for Easter through actions that speak as loudly as words? And why not make it a regular practice afterwards?
